Why Contentment Whispers While Happiness Shouts – And Freedom Sometimes Hurts

Preface – Words Without Aim That Still Hit Home

I sit here – no tea, just a worn-out notebook – letting thoughts drift like balloons with no known owner.
This is no manifesto. No guide.
More like talking to a houseplant at night – unobserved, yet liberating.

“I don’t share to be right. But to ask: Do you ever feel this too?”

👋 Thanks for being here!

This blog shows what others often leave out – honest, raw, from a different angle. If you value these unusual perspectives, your support helps me keep writing. Whether it’s once or regularly – every small gesture means a lot.

1. The Tyranny of Constant Happiness – and the Quiet Power of Contentment

We live in a world where we’re supposed to always be “happy.”
But happiness is a bad compass. It works for postcards, not real life.

Contentment however…

  • can wait
  • likes repetition
  • needs no audience

Thought experiment:
For one week, stop asking “Am I happy?” and instead ask:
“Would I want to live this exact moment again?”

2. The Caged Bird Within – and the Fear of Flying

There’s the life in velvet gloves: safe, comfortable, predictable.
And the life with scars: stormy, unpredictable, full of stories.

The truth is:
We don’t fear the dangers outside.
We fear our own ability to fly.

3. The Safety Lie – Why Too Much Protection Suffocates Us

“Safe spaces” sound good, but often they’re…

  • emotional clean rooms where risk isn’t allowed
  • relationship bunkers storing only confirmation
  • resumé graveyards where dreams get “sensibly” buried

The harder we cling to safety, the more we petrify while still alive.
Sometimes I even wake up panicked in a proper bed – because it feels too safe.

Dangers, Differences and the Illusion of Grand Adventure

No matter what we do – we’re all different.
Dangers lurk everywhere.
You don’t have to chase every trend just because it sounds like grand adventure or is currently fashionable.

Even after twenty years in the same place, you might suddenly say:
“I’ve never noticed this spot before.”

And even nomads who seem constantly on the move don’t have an “exclusive contract” with experiences.
Maybe some days they just watch TV, work on laptops or go grocery shopping – like everyone else.

In the end, our activities are similar.
Only the stages we perform them on look different.

4. The Loneliness of Self-Listeners

Being different means being leaves that dance against the wind,
cheering for shooting stars while others sleep.

We crave closeness – and often only find it
when we stop bending ourselves.

“Better alone and real than popular yet foreign in your own life.”

5. The Beauty of Failure

I collect:

  • embarrassing moments
  • wrong decisions
  • panic attacks

Not to torture myself – but because flaws capture light.
Because doubts are often better storytellers.
Because perfect life histories are boring.

6. My Compromising Minimalism

Current possessions: one backpack, a small room, two pairs of shoes.
I could lose everything tomorrow – or decide to own more.
Minimalism isn’t a rule for me, but a constant new question:
“What do I really need – right now?”

7. The Beauty of Regret

Yes, I might lie crying in a hostel bed.
Or wish I’d stayed “normal.”
But that’s part of it like rain in rainy season.

“Regret is just the echo of courage – proof that you dared.”

Epilogue – For All Who Are Quietly Strong

If today you felt afraid but tried something new anyway,
felt different, or secretly cried while everyone thinks you’re strong –
then there’s already two of us.

“Courage isn’t the absence of fear – but the trembling that keeps moving anyway.”

Contentment isn’t a final destination.
It’s the quiet sound when you know inside:
“Yes. This is my path. At least for today.”
